Exodus – The Red Sea

Brian and Kevin share a discussion of the text that will be meditated upon in our second Wednesday Lenten service today. The Israelites are free…..now what? The guys talk about the Israelites being led through the wilderness by the pillars of God. We also get to see the awesome power of the Lord, once again, with the parting of the Red Sea. The power of the water as we’ve seen before!

I really do look forward to hearing this everyday. It is like we are all sitting around talking about it all with you….which — I guess we are. 😐

In many of the OT Bible studies I attend with some of the ladies uninitiated in Scripture — (not those at HC, however) — I hear: ‘That is so unjust! I would not follow a God who killed all those innocent people!”

As we know there was not ONE innocent person among those who tried to escape God’s punishment, and that God simply pushed them back into it! Ex 15:27b “And as the Egyptians fled into it, the Lord threw the Egyptians into the midst of the sea.” By the time they realized their error (what a terrible thought!), it was too late. “Depart from Me; I never knew you!”

That really blows even MY hair back to read that! However, considering how many chances and reprieves they received at God’s hand and with Moses’ repeated warnings, God’s actions were far from unjust. We all get those HUGE reprieves everyday that bring us back to remain faithful because He was and is faithful to us first. Praise God for making and keeping us faithful!

Prov 24:12 ~ “If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?”

The thing about these studies is that they do not only illuminate the story itself, but they bring to mind other things that God has said to us and for us in His Word and in Jesus. I am always blessed to see God “repeating Himself” for our dull-witted benefit!

    Mary,
We are all sitting around discussing it together. It’s so great! Especially when you get a shout out for such thought provoking comments you have made.
